@communitysaints ⛳️ Our 2025 SCDF Golf Day took place on Thursday at Mersey Valley! Thank you to all of the sponsors and everyone who was involved in the day! 🙌 #Saintsandproud | @St.Helens R.F.C ♬ As free as the wind – 李宁
Golf Day was once again a big success, with sponsors coming in from all over the country to support the event, which was setup by the hard work of Billy Dillon.
The event attracted 18 tee sponsors, 72 players and was a resounding success with all competitors having a brilliant days golf.
We had sponsored teams competing from Lincolnshire, Scotland, Birmingham plus many local companies sponsoring the event.
The competition format was Shotgun Start at 1pm, with a four-man team and the best two scores to count on each hole with ¾ Handicap.

With the funds raised on the day, 100% of all monies raised goes to the SCDF and helps toward running cost for the many and various programmes the Foundation operate within the local community.
The event wouldn’t be what it is if we didn’t have the support of the many companies that sponsor this event. We must give all of our golf day sponsors a shout out.
Billy Dillon Commented: “The Saints Community Development Foundation’s Charity Golf Day has now been effective for the last six years.
“Initially the organising of the event was difficult to get off the ground having to attracting potential partners to buy into the charities vision for an annual fund raising event.
“After the inaugural competition it has been relatively plain sailing. Although there were a few alterations that we had to make to ensure the event ran smoothly, minor things cost of green fees, post-match meal, registration, etc.
“Fortunately most of our Tee & Team sponsors have supported the event from day one, so we have retained 70% of the original entrants/partners that have supported the Charity Golf Day from its inaugural inception. We put this down to a number of things, firstly we want the day to be competitive but enjoyable. We limit the number of teams that we enter into the event so that it’s not over crowded on the course and finally we keep the post-match awards presentation to a minimum so that entrants can get on and enjoy a post-match mix & mingle with a pint.
“There is a lot of organisation leading up to the day but on the day itself it’s a breeze. The three ladies do the player registrations and after match raffle. And once the Starter Horn is sounded for the start of the competition (shotgun start) means that all the teams tee off at the same time and four hours later they all return for their meal & a drink.

“The most difficult thing we have to deal with year on year is inflation, golf course green, after match food prices. Fortunately Mersey Valley Golf & Country Club not only give us competitive rates but take part in entering the Competition.
“Finally it would be vary ungraceful of me not to mention the partners who have their name on the Headline Sponsors Role for the last six years along with partners that have donated many raffle prizes.”
