The Community View: Saints down the Knights

On Friday 1st May 2026, Saints faced York Knights for the first time ever in the Betfred Super League!

SCDF Point of View

Outside the Stadium

Our SCDF Fanzone had been planned to take place outside the Keiron Cunningham statue, but due to poor weather conditions we had to move it inside for this game.

Boots did brave the poor weather for a bit though. As he headed around the ground to meet some fans outside the stadium prior to kick off.

Inside the Stadium

The SCDF Fanzone was setup inside the North Stand for fans to come and get involved with some of the minigames on offer prior to the game getting underway.

Boots then headed out around the perimeter of the pitch to meet fans prior to the teams heading out for their warmups.

We also had the A Star Saints Angels perform their routines in the middle of the pitch at the BrewDog Stadium, before heading towards the tunnel to welcome the two teams to the pitch.

Player from some of our Community Clubs then helped to wave the two flags in the middle of the pitch before the contest got underway.

During Half-Time

We had seven Community Club get involved with games taking place across the pitch at the stadium during the break. Ashton Bears, Blackbrook Royals, Clockface Miners, Haresfinch Hawks, Newton Storm, Pilkington Recs and Thatto Heath Crusaders all had teams represented on the pitch.

The A Star Saints Angels then performed in the middle of the field facing the West Stand, before heading back towards the tunnel area to welcome the players back out for the second half.

Match Report

Saints raced into a three-score lead at the BrewDog Stadium. Tries from Bill Leyland and a brace from Owen Dagnall inside the opening 20 minutes gave Saints a 16-0 lead. However, a brace from Jesse Dee towards the end of the half made it a 0ne-score game at the break, 16-10 we led.

The Red V proved too strong in the second forty though. After a scoreless opening 20 minutes to the half, tries from Alex Walmsley, Jake Davies, Jack Welsby and Nene Macdonald gave the hosts the two points. Scott Galeano went over with the last play of the game to grab a consolation for the visitors. 40-16 Saints winning at the BrewDog Stadium in our first ever league meeting with the Knights.
