Rainford High win Champion Schools Final at Wembley

It was a big weekend for some of the students at one of our local schools, Rainford High, as they competed at Wembley Stadium on Saturday!

They are the first St.Helens based team to win the Year 7 Boys Final since St Augustines won the title in the 2002/03 season.

The team had left the day before from the Totally Wicked Stadium, alongside the St.Helens Women’s side who also left for their Final at Wembley. The sides left at 9:30am with fans cheering both sides off and headed to London to prepare for their respective games.

Saints legend James Roby came into the changing room to talk to the team before they left the stadium. He spoke with the playing group travelling to the Capital ahead of the game.

Rainford High’s Year 7 side had already had more success earlier on this year. They won the Year 7 Schools Final at the start of May, beating Cowley 56-0 at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

The team then stayed over in London before heading to the ground on the day of the game. The game kicked off at 10am at Wembley, with the North West side leading 0-16 at half-time, adding a further 24 points in the second half to beat Sirus Academy West of Hull 0-40 in the Final at Wembley.

All of us at the Saints Community Development Foundation would like to congratulate Rainford on their victory at the weekend!
