Saints take on Inclusion Round – The Community View

This week’s Saints home game was different from any other, as the Club alongside the Foundation celebrated it’s Inclusion Round!

The double-header gameday saw the Saints Women take on York Valkyrie, in a rematch from the Women’s Challenge Cup semi-final that saw the Saints get to Wembley, with the First Team taking on the Leeds Rhinos in what was all set for another tense encounter between the two sides.

In the lead-up to the game this week, the foundation celebrated Inclusion Round by announcing an exciting piece of news each day, ranging from LDRL to our Inclusive Cheer Team! You can read each story here:

The Women took on the Valkyrie, and despite having an 8-0 lead at the break, the Women fell short to York, with the Valkyrie taking home an 8-18 win. The Saints battled to the death and put on a show for the Saints fans watching on and yet again inspiring more Girls to get involved in the game. You can see some of the Saints Women at our Rugbees sessions every Wednesday, as they further inspire Girls within our Community!

As the Women’s game came to an end, we went outside to support the Food Pantry, which will be outside the Totally Wicked Stadium for the remaining games between now and the end of the season.

Once again, we had a table inside the 1873 Lounge ahead of the game kicking off at the Totally Wicked Stadium. We had guests from SCDF partners join us on the table.

Our Saints Angels then entered the field to perform for the crowd ahead of kick-off, with all of our Saints Angels teams taking part in the performance. Our Saints Angels put on another great show, with all the work they put in during the week paying off, with the Angels amazing the crowd once again!

Our A-star Angels then headed over to the tunnel, along with our Inclusive Cheer team to welcome the players on to the field. Our Inclusive Cheer team held our flags, waving them as the players entered the field alongside our A-star Angels.

We also welcomed some of our Community Clubs onto the field, as they held one of the banners on the pitch to welcome the players out onto the pitch, before going back to there seats for the first half action.

Our LDRL side also joined us on the pitch, as they held another of our banners on the pitch prior to kick-off. It was great to see so many of our LDRL team join us for the game.

At the half-time break, our LDRL side re-entered the field as they took a lap around the pitch, receiving an outstanding reaction from the ground. The team then joined us half way round the walk for a big team photo in front of the dugouts!

We were also joined by Stuart Rogers from MUSE, as he joined SCDF Development Manager Ben Hardman on the pitch for a photograph, celebrating the announcement that MUSE will be sponsoring our Inclusive Cheer programme for the next two years!

Our Community Clubs came back onto the field to represent their clubs in some mini-games at the break, along with our A-Star Angels as they once again put on a show for the crowd, to finish off a successful, inclusive, and entertaining Inclusion Round, with the Saints topping off the evening with a victory over the Rhinos!
