Semi-Final Rematch – The Community View

Once again, the Community were hard at work behind the scenes on Friday evening, as Saints hosted Leigh Leopards at the Totally Wicked Stadium!

Before everything got underway, we went outside to support the Food Pantry, which will be outside the Totally Wicked Stadium for the final regular season home game against Hull FC on Friday 22nd September.

We then moved inside the stadium, inside the 1873 lounge, a few past Saints players were honoured for their time at the club.

The Community also had a table in the lounge, ahead of the big game! Our Mental Health Ambassador Mike Webster was joined by members of St Helens MIND, and Redvee who all took part in our Walk to Warrington. We were delighted to be able to present MIND with there half of the cheque from the money raised, which in total came to £6,778!

We also welcomed long standing support of the foundation Brain Hatton, who continues to support the community with multiple projects that they deliver. A big thanks to Brian and all at Hatton’s Travel for their continued support!

Before any action got underway on the field, we paid tribute to those who we lost over the past 12 months. We took time to celebrate the lives of past players, board members, staff and supports who passed away in the last 12 months. A tribute video could be heard around the stadium, and seen on the big screen as members of our current squad and head coach Paul Wellens read the names of those, after a message from Club Chaplain Paul Johnson.

We then welcomed to the pitch our A-star & Saints Angels who warmed the crowd up with the pre game performance during the warm up, as we built towards a massive Super League clash!

As the A-Star Angels made their way back towards the tunnel, Boots entered to the arena as he went around the ground, meeting some the Saints faithful. Boots stopped for plenty photographs and autographs as he welcomed everyone to the stadium with a smile on his face!

As the club celebrated it’s 150th year anniversary in this rounds Heritage game, we welcomed many of our past player to our ‘Hall of Fame’ Lounge here at the Totally Wicked Stadium, as they formed a guard of honour to welcome players. It was great to hear a great reception as our past players entered the field as their names were read out. Once a Saints, Always a Saint!

During the half-time break, the Angels performed again in the middle of the pitch, whilst there was also a crossbar challenge taking place, sponsored by Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Along with action in front of the West stand, we also had some games in front of the East stand. Some of our community clubs took to the field at Half time as they played some mini games in front of the fans!

We also were delighted to welcome Paul Forber to the field at Half time to present him with his Hall of Fame induction plaque, after he was added to the Hall of Fame at this years Past Players dinner! Paul was joined by Peter Harvey, who presented Paul with his award!
