Thank you, Robes
St. Helens have announced that club legend James Roby will be leaving the club following the conclusion of the 2025 season.
You can read their full article about James Roby’s departure on the club website here.
The Rugby League legend made his debut for the club back in 2004 and spent his entire playing career in the Red V, before moving into an off-field role at the end of his playing career in 2023.
During his playing career at the club, he won six Super League championships, four Challenge Cups, eight League Leaders’ Shields, and two World Club titles.
In 2024 it was announced that the St Helens Linkway would be renamed to the James Roby Way, an honour fitting to a legend of the club.

Robes made a club record 551 appearances for Saints during his playing career at the club, surpassing the previous record held by Kel Coslett with 531 in 2022. He is our Heritage Number #1136.
Throughout the years, Robes came along to numerous of our events and got involved in helping to inspire those around our local community. Whether it was a Rugby League Camp, a Reminisce Cafe or even just showing his face to show his support the work we do, James would always be there to show his support for the SCDF and the work we do.
The former Saints Captain also got involved in helping to deliver donations towards our Christmas Appeal. In 2023, we visited Whiston Hospital to make donations on behalf of the community with Robes on hand to come along and support the event.

Earlier on this year, Rainford High School played in the Year 7 Inspire Sport Champion Schools Final. Robes delivered a speech to their team at the Totally Wicked Stadium prior to their trip to London. They went on to win that game 0-40 against Sirus Academy West to lift the trophy.

Whenever a new face entered the club, James Roby would always emphasise how important the SCDF is in supporting the local community with the work that we do.
James Roby will continue to be involved with Saints as a Club Ambassador moving forward.
The Saints Community Development Foundation would like to thank Robes for all of his contributions towards our work during his time at the club and wish him all the best in the future.
