The Community View: Derby Day Double Header

On Friday 5th September, Saints hosted Wigan Warriors in a Derby Day double header at the Totally Wicked Stadium!

Have a read and see what the Saints Community Development Foundation got up to throughout the gameday down below!

OUTSIDE THE STADIUM

We headed outside early ahead of a sold out double header of action. We were outside the South Stand at the Totally Wicked Stadium from 4:30pm so fans could come and get involved with lots of pre-game activities.

Passing Wall, Darts and a lot more activities were on offer, with plenty of prizes on offer including a signed rugby ball from the Saints squad.

The Cheer & Dance girls also headed outside to get involved with some face painting with fans prior to the main event getting underway at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

PRE GAME

We then headed into the Totally Wicked Stadium prior to the game. We had a mass dance going on in the middle of the pitch, with all of our Cheer & Dance teams getting involved in the routine facing the West Stand.

Shortly after, the A Star Saints Angels returned to the pitch and began their routine as the warmups got underway.

Boots came down from the roof prior to kick off, in conjunction with the Royal Marines, as he delivered the match ball ahead of the game.

Once that was done, our mascot headed around the ground to meet fans at the sold out venue for Derby Day.

Our Community Clubs then helped bring out the flags for the two teams onto the pitch. We then had flags waved around the perimeter of the pitch and the A Star Saints Angels stood outside the tunnel, as they welcomed the two sides to the pitch.

HALF TIME

During the half time break, we had a lot of Community Clubs in action in the middle of the pitch, showcasing their skills to the crowd at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

The A Star Angels performed their third dance of the evening facing the West Stand before the second half got underway.

THE GAME

Saints took a deserved lead via a Deon Cross try, as he scored after collecting a Jack Welsby cut-out pass in the corner. Wigan hit back, tries from Jake Wardle and Liam Marshall accompanied with a Harry Smith conversion and penalty gave the visitors a 4-12 lead at the break.

Jai Field scored the only try of the second half, as he collected a Bevan French pass and raced the length of the field to score. Smith added another conversion as Saints lost 4-18 on Derby Day.
