The Community View: Facing the Leopards

On Thursday 17th July, Saints hosted Leigh Leopards in Round 19 of the Betfred Super League at the Totally Wicked Stadium!

Have a read and see what the Saints Community Development Foundation got up to throughout the gameday down below!

OUTSIDE THE STADIUM

Ahead of kick off at the Totally Wicked Stadium, we had plenty of activities going on outside the ground. We had our Fanzone setup outside the RedVee Bar in the South Stand, with lots of activities going on including the likes of the Passing Wall, Hole In One Golf, Face Painting and lots more.

Some of our Cheerleaders also came out and performed a routine for the fans passing by.

Boots came outside and got involved in meeting fans before paying a visit to JJ Ices below the Keiron Cunningham statue.

PRE GAME

Heading into the stadium, we had a table in the 1873 lounge prior to kick off with some special guests there including the likes of Sally Yeoman, one of our trustees.

Boots began his lap of the Totally Wicked Stadium, meeting fans around the ground ahead of kick off.

We then headed pitchside, as our Cheer & Dance teams performed a routine in front of the North Stand ahead of kick off.

The A Star Saints Angels then headed out onto the pitch to perform a big group routine with some Cheerleaders from some of our younger teams.

Our Community Clubs then came and got involved with helping to bring out the two teams’ flags ahead of kick off in the middle of the pitch.

As the two teams headed out onto the pitch, the A Star Angels waved the flags as the sides ran out onto the pitch.

HALF TIME

We had Community Clubs playing four separate games across the length of the pitch in front of the North Stand at half-time of the game.

The A Star Saints Angels also headed back out onto the pitch to perform once again before the second half got underway at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

THE GAME

The only points in a tight first half came via Gareth O’Brien’s boot, as he converted two of his three penalty attempts to give the Leopards a 0-4 lead at the break.

There was a lot more points in the second half. Joe Ofahengaue scored the opening try in the 59th minute, before scoring his and Leigh’s second try in the 78th minute to seal the win. Harry Robertson scored Saints’ solitary consolation try in the final minute.
