Whittle Cup in 2025 a Success!
On Friday, we hosted our Tag Rugby Whittle Cup competition for 2025!
This year, the Whittle Cup descended onto Ruskin Drive, with 13 Schools arriving for a day of Tag Rugby fun.
With the sun shining down onto the field, our 13 competing teams set up, and then came in as they were introduced to the day before gearing up for their first games of the day.

Our Schools began their games, as the sun continued to beam down, creating a great Rugby Festival environment for everyone involved.
It was a fast flowing round of games, with each one lasting 8 minutes, with end to end Rugby on show from all our Schools! Three pitches were set up across the 3G field at Ruskin, along with an SCDF Hub, where all the scores were marked, tabled and on show for all to see, on top of Refreshments and Ice Lollies for all our competing players.

Joining us on the day was two stars of the Saints Women’s team Phoebe Hook and Katie Mottershead, who both work with the Foundation delivering projects across the Community. Both Phoebe and Katie joined in referring and score keeping, before heading off to Leeds were our Saints recorded a 22-20 win over the Leeds Rhinos!
It was great to see so many girls playing in the competition, and having two stars from the Women’s game present as they played.

As the round of games come to an end, our first visitor of the day joined us on the field at Ruskin, with Boots coming along to join in the fun, greeting all our Schools who attended. Some of our Schools posed for photos with our Furry Mascot, as they enjoyed their day of Rugby League fun!

As the final game came to end, all our Schools joined us back in-front of the SCDF Hub, as we announced the final for the day, with Legh Vale to take on Wargrave in our Whittle Cup Final for 2025.
The game was a real close contest, with both sides scoring a try each before the full-time whistle blew, taking the game to extra-time. Shortly into extra-time, Wargrave crossed over to win the game and win the Whittle Cup for 2025!

Along with the final, a third place game also took place, which saw Thatto Heath come out the victors in another great contest.
To help present the medals and Whittle Cup, our second visitors joined us, Saints First Team players James Bell, Lewis Murphy & Will Roberts to conduct the ceremony.
A massive thank you to the lads for coming down, adding to what was already an amazing day for all 133 players we had at the Whittle Cup!

A massive well done to all the Schools who competed at this year’s Whittle Cup, and thanks to all the Teachers & Volunteers who helped make a memorable day for everyone involved, we look forward to welcoming you all back next year!
