SCDF Easter half-term 2023 Camps – Week One
A look back at all of the events hosted by the Saints Community Development Foundation, following week one of our Easter half-term camps!
After a busy Spring session of camps for the SCDF, you can see below everything that we did over the past two weeks over the Easter period.
Monday 3rd April
On the first day of our half-term Easter camps, we kicked off with several events around the local community. Rugby League Development Camps, Cheer Camps and HAF events all took place on the first day. HAF is a council programme funded by the Department for Education.
Our Rugby League Development Camps were led by former St Helens players Matty Smith and Gary Wheeler at Cowley International College, the event lasting from 10am to 3pm (with drop off available from 9:30am). The first of three back-to-back days full of fun during the week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) for children aged 6-13 to enjoy.
Our Cheer Camps ran alongside these events at the Totally Wicked Stadium. This event allowed children the chance to learn from the best cheerleaders in the Betfred Super League across the first three days of the week.
Our HAF events around the local community also took place on Monday. On Monday morning, sessions took place at both the Shining Lights Centre (ages 5-16), as well as Allanson Street (ages 5-15). The morning sessions began at 10am, lasting two hours until 12pm. The afternoon events going from 12:30pm until 2:30pm. Following those two sessions, there was also a UV Sport event hosted at Allanson Street (ages 10-16) between 3-5pm, with a UV Dance Party at the Shining Lights Centre (ages 10-16) at the same time.
Tuesday 4th April
Following a successful day on Monday, we moved onto day two on Tuesday. Rugby League Development Camps, Girls Rugby League Camps, Cheer Camps and HAF all took place on the second day.
With the Rugby League Development Camps taking place at the same time all week, the event once again started at 10am at Cowley International College. St Helens Women’s Head Coach, Matty Smith again hosting the event, alongside Gary Wheeler. Several Saints stars showed their faces at the event and watched on whilst the children took part in small sided Rugby League games!
Following that, the Girls’ Development sessions took place at the same venue. The groups were split into two, ages 7-11 and also 11-16. Those in the 11-16 group were in Matty Smith’s Coaching Masterclass. Smith, who recently was appointed St Helens Women’s Head Coach, showed off his coaching skills to help develop some potential stars of the future.
Cheer Camps once again took place again on the same day, at the same time, at the Totally Wicked Stadium. The girls once again got to run through routines with our A-Star Saints Angels, as well as meet new faces and show themselves off as potential Angels of the future in another day filled with fun!
Our HAF Camps also took place once again on Tuesday. HAF returned to Allanson Street (Ages 5-16) from 10am to 12pm on the morning. With another event running at Wargrave CofE Primary (Ages 6-16) from 10:30am to 12:30pm. The afternoon events running from 12:30pm to 2:30pm (Allanson Street) and 1pm-3pm (Wargrave CofE Primary).
